Mr. Lorimer Esselaar

An experienced Ophthalmic Surgeon, Mr. Esselaar has performed more than 26,000 procedures including LASIK and LASEK. He is registered with the General Medical Council (GMC) and is a fully trained Ophthalmologist who has undergone additional specialist training in refractive surgery.
He is an Ophthalmic Surgeon for Optical Express who has gained vast experience in a wide range of specialities and is an active member of various affiliated bodies and societies. Twice every year, Mr. Esselaar attends International Medical Advisory Board (IMAB) Conferences and is annually assessed by this board. The panel consists of several of the world's most eminent Refractive Surgeons including Mr. Steve Schallhorn, former Head of Ophthalmology for the US Navy, Professor Jan Venter, a world leading Ophthalmic Surgeon, and Mr. Jeffery Machat, co-founder of TLC Vision, one of the largest laser vision correction providers in the world.
Mr. Esselaar began his studies at the University of Cape Town in South Africa where he was awarded a BSc in Pure Mathematics and Chemistry with triple distinctions in 1974. He continued studying at the University of Cape Town where he completed his MB and ChB degrees in 1980, and at the University of Stellenbosch, where he completed his MMed (Ophth) degree in 1988. Mr Esselaar worked in the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Stellenbosch for ten years, holding the positions of Senior Consultant Specialist, Senior Lecturer, Head of the Medical Retinal Unit, Chairman of the Undergraduate Ophthalmology Teaching Program, and Postgraduate Ophthalmology Medical and Surgical Supervisor.
He proceeded to spend the following three years working as a Specialist and Head of the Department of Ophthalmology at the Private Royal Hospital of the Sultan of Brunei Darussalam before relocating to the UK. His dedication to his profession and patients is evident from his clinical experience and continued attendance at seminars and conferences as both speaker and delegate.
